Established in 2020 and headquartered in Alipurduar, the North Bengal Amateur Radio Society (NBARS) is a dedicated group of licensed amateur radio operators committed to enhancing communication capabilities throughout the region.
Operational area encompasses the varied landscapes of the Dooars and nearby areas, positioning them as a crucial support system during emergencies when standard communication infrastructure is compromised. NBARS ensures that communities stay connected when it matters most.
Guided by the motto “When all else fails, amateur radio works,” NBARS has steadily grown into a hub for both emergency communication and the promotion of HAM radio culture in North Bengal. The society organizes training workshops and awareness programs to introduce people—especially students and young enthusiasts—to the world of amateur radio. These sessions focus on practical skills such as antenna building, radio operation, and digital communication modes, empowering participants to become confident operators and future contributors to disaster response. NBARS also conducts technical demonstrations, disaster drills, and outreach activities to highlight the importance of amateur radio in remote and disaster‑prone areas. By nurturing new operators and spreading awareness, the society ensures that HAM radio continues to thrive as both a hobby and a public service tool.
Whether through emergency response or educational initiatives, North Bengal Amateur Radio Society stands as a beacon of resilience in North Bengal, proving that amateur radio remains as relevant today as ever in building stronger, safer communities.
"When All Else Fails, Amateur Radio Works." We envision a future where HAM radio is not just a tool for emergency response, but a vibrant culture of learning, innovation and service. NBARS aims to inspire young enthusiasts through awareness programs and training workshops to develop a new generation of radio operators to carry forward the spirit of voluntary service and technical excellence.
